As my Uncle Lorenzo would say "whats up whats up" Just got back from Neighborhood Walmart needed one maybe two items, we all know how that turned out. Just read your blog E., hang in there. Had to go to Dallas yesterday prior to work. Fix your self a snack, (Northern folks, popcorn or chips, TEXANS such as myself, grab a bowl of BLUE BELL). As I was saying, this was truly an adventure on multiple levels. my first adventure was getting to my destination in downtown Dallas. Folks how I got to DISD headquarters(Dallas Independant School District) where I was going it only seemed logical to download driving directions from one of the many map websites available. Eastlyn and I have had this conversation on multiple occasions. I am convinced that whoever is responsible for putting these directions together and determines how long it will take you to get from point a to point b does so between 2 and 3 in the morning when there is minimal traffic. These website clearly does not take into consideration the person/s using these sites are doing so for one reason. WE DON'T KNOW WHERE WE ARE GOING!! If we did know, we would have zero use for them. Needless to say I made it. Never once did I get upset, I was to amazed by the fact that I got there in spite of my accurate directions provided to me courtesy of maps.com. This brings me to my next adventure/observation. I am originally from the upper midwest, specifically the Chicago area. While driving through downtown Dallas I noticed that the majority of the streets curve A LOT. This is not good for giving out directions to someone who is unfamiliar with the area. let me explain. In the city of Chicago all of the streets run either north - south or east - west in STRAIGHT LINES NO CURVES (S, U SHAPED ROADS). There is on major street that runs at angle from the northwest to the southeast of the entire city. If you go north you hit the north suburbs or eventually Wisconsin. If you go south, the south suburbs and beyond, west, western burbs and beyond. Heading east is a different subject, you can only go so far by car. At some point you will have to start swimming so pay attention (Lake Michigan), by the way the water is very cold. it has also been known to freeze over at times. Alright back to driving in Dallas. At one point I crossed the same street multiple times without making a right or left turn. Aunt Lana and Uncle Lorenzo are right when they say we do things different down here. I just wasn't prepared for that philosophy to extend to the design and subsequent building of the roadways.
Alright, I am now inside DISD headquaters Human Development offices. I knew something was wrong the second I walked in. There were numerous people walking around looking confused. within seconds I became one of them. There were ZERO signs stating where to go. The individuals behind the counter spoke to those on myside of the counter in incomplete sentances and seemed to think that we already knew what to do and were to go. NOT. I along with others kept asking the same questions over and over in hopes of getting answers to what I thought were simple questions. "Who do I give my resume's and letters of intrest to? What do I do now? I thought those questions were very simple, easy to understand. Evidently I'm wrong. Alas I was successful. I hope I can say the same for the others I left behind. Now I have to leave Dallas and head to work. Remember how I said I have no idea how I got here given the directions I was using. My directions to get from DISD to work came from the same website. enough said. Well that is all I have for now. Gonna try to catch up with my cousin E., see how she is doing.
Till next time keep reaching for the stars while holding steadfast to MOTHER EARTH. I'm outta here, bye.
I always forget to sign in first. Now I have to recreate what I just tried to post!
